Get To Know Us

The name "Goodman Electric" was first used in Flagstaff back in 1955 when brothers James (Jim) and Thomas (Gene) Goodman began adding electrical work to the portfolio they had built by already providing other contracting work around Northern Arizona. Gene had begun his electrical training years earlier while serving in the Navy during WWII on a submarine. He was able to quickly build the business, taking on larger and larger projects around Flagstaff and the surrounding areas. Over the years, Jim and Gene took on several construction projects around town that are now iconic buildings in our great city and the surrounding areas, including NAU dorms, additions and remodels to the Flagstaff Medical Center, the Pine Cliff Village Apartment complex, the Tuba City Hospital, LDS Stake Center, and many others!

Both Jim and Gene employed some of their children in the endeavor and one in particular became especially interested in pursuing the electrical trade. Tom, Gene's son, took on additional training and obtained his journeyman certificate. After working in the industry for several years, including time in California at the Del Monte factory, Tom Goodman was ready to go it on his own. In 1986, Tom founded Goodman Contracting, Inc and operated under the Flagstaff family name of Goodman Electric. Over the subsequent decades, Tom grew the company from a solo operation to a major player in Northern Arizona construction, employing a team of 25+ electricians and support staff. Tom was active in the construction community, serving on association boards, participating in training events, and helping found the Northern Arizona Electric Contractor's Association in 2008, a school that operates today to help train the next generation of Electricians!

In 2012, Tom's son Derek came on board following graduation from business school to manage several aspects of the company. He remained for 4 years before returning to school for a master's degree in business management. Derek understood the value of what his father and grandfather had created those many years ago, and so bought the business in 2016. Derek is active in the community and currently serves as the secretary treasurer for the Northern Arizona Electrical Contractor's Association.

Today, Goodman Electric is one of the leading electrical contractors in Northern Arizona and employs some of the best electricians in the business. Together, we are dedicated to perfecting our craft so we can provide reliable work with integrity.
